Renaissance Guide to Custom Stone Counters

Feel free to stop by our showroom and take a look at our stone selection and get a quote for your dream project, no appointment required!

To get an estimate we need:

  • Layout/dimensions (does not need to be professionally drawn)
  • Pictures of the space
  • Address
  • Material name you are interested in

Once approved, we book a laser template appointment. Installation follows in 5–10 business days. Total turnaround: ~2 weeks.

Before templating:

  • Appliances on site (sink(s), cooktop/stove, downdraft, fridge)
  • Cabinets installed, level, and secured
  • 70% deposit paid prior or on the day of templating

Note: Renaissance does not do plumbing. Wait 24h after sink mounting before hooking up plumbing.

Old counters must be removed before installation. We offer removal/disposal for a fee.

Please have plumbing disconnected and faucet on site for installation day.

No weekend appointments. We will contact you before appointment for approximate time of arrival.

Included in the quote:

  • One sink cut-out
  • Sink mounting
  • Drilling holes for faucet/soap dispenser
  • Polished edges (straight/eased or ¼” round)
  • Template and installation (Winnipeg only)
  • Silicone sealing

Stone Slabs

Natural and engineered stones vary in tone, texture, and color. Visit our suppliers to select your slab(s) prior to templating. Quartz has uniform patterns; natural stone may have fissures and pits that add to its character.

Backsplash & Edges

Backsplashes match the counter in thickness and are sealed with silicone. We offer custom edges such as bullnose, ogee, bevel, and more.

Sink Cut-outs

Cut-outs are made using the physical sink, not templates. We use a negative reveal with an eased edge polish for under-mount sinks.

Seams

Seams are minimized but may still be visible. Final placement is at the discretion of the fabricator, depending on slab size, layout, and stone type.

Daily Care

Use mild soap and water. Avoid abrasives and oils. Clean with soft cloth or paper towel. Bar Keepers Friend may be used for quartz stains only.

Sealing

Quartz does not require sealing. Natural stone should be sealed every 1–2 years depending on absorption (test with water droplet).

Rendering

Renderings are provided when full slabs are used. Remnant-based layouts typically do not receive renderings.

FAQ

What is the cost per square foot?
Projects are custom quoted depending on materials and complexity.

Is there a warranty?
Warranty terms vary by brand. Refer to the supplier’s website.

Are stone surfaces heat resistant?
Yes, but not heat proof. Use trivets or pads for hot items.

Do countertops overhang cabinets?
Standard overhang is 1.5" past the cabinet base.

Do I need to choose a sink before templating?
Yes. Have the sink and faucet on-site for templating.

When can I hook up plumbing?
24 hours after installation to allow adhesive to cure.

Will there be seams?
Possibly. Seam placement depends on slab size and layout.

Do I need to be present during installation?
Yes, or have a trusted person on-site.

Will installation create dust?
Yes. Cover surrounding areas to protect from debris.

Do I need to empty cabinets?
Yes. Base cabinets must be cleared out before install.

How much overhang is allowed without support?
Quartz: up to 12”, Natural Stone: up to 10”.

Installation Warranty

1-year coverage for fabrication and install issues on residential homes. Covers seam performance and sink detachment (if plumbing wasn’t connected too early).

Not Covered:

  • Natural stone imperfections (fissures, pits, etc.)
  • Color dissatisfaction or natural variation
  • Damage from abuse, heat, chemicals, or heavy impact
  • Outdoor use or flooring applications
  • House/cabinet movement or uneven exposure

Quartz brands usually offer 10–25 year warranties. Natural stones do not come with manufacturer warranties and should be sealed regularly.
